The diocese is divided into five regional areas, called convocations: Abingdon, August, Lynchburg, New River, and Roanoke.

Each convocation has a clergy Dean and a lay President, and each meets three times during the year in preparation for Convention. Clergy, elected lay delegates, and elected lay alternates are to attend these meetings, and all interested parishioners are also encouraged to attend. The Convocation President determines the date, time, and agenda for the spring meeting.
