Christingle Service

A special service for all ages to celebrate the Light of Christ.

A tradition from the Moravian Church, at which (“Christingles”) are lit as a reminder of the need to share the light, love, and message of Jesus Christ, especially at this time of the year. Christingles are oranges wrapped in red tape, decorated with dried fruit or sweets, with a candle on the top.

Each element of a Christingle has a special meaning and helps to tell the Christian story:

• The orange represents the world
• The red ribbon (or tape) symbolises the love and blood of Christ
• The candies and/or dried fruit represent all of God’s creations
• The lit candle (or glow stick) represents Jesus’s light in the world, bringing hope to people living in darkness.
